This is our new goal: To be able to dance Salsa with a partner -- and a Whip!
This scene is taken from the short subject "La Fiesta". It was produced in 1926 by the Vitaphone Corporation. The featured dancers are the "Dancing Cansinos", a dancing troupe that originated in Spain. Dancing is Eduardo Cansino and his daughter, future 1940's sex goddess Rita Hayworth (who was born Margarita Carmen Dolores Cansino). We can not confirm that this is actually Rita. She would have been 8 years old when this was filmed, but every account we can find says she danced in this short, and you are seeing the dance sequence as it was presented on August 6, 1926 at the Warner Theatre in New York City. This was at the premier of the film "Don Juan", starring John Barrymore.
Anyway, this clip is here because we like to preserve as much Latin couple dancing as we can. As we've said "Everything old is new, everything new is old..."
Not to mention dancing with a whip is pretty cool!
